Abbott Neuromodulation
The Summer of 2022, I worked as a College Operations intern for Abbott Neuromodulation. The product of focus was a thin tube placed inside the human body, which sends "shocks" to neurons. In order to send those shocks, lumens (which are wires placed within the tube) are used and can vary in quantity and distance from one another. Due to COVID protocols, the internship remained virtual.

I tested the force distributions on tubes for three scenarios using FEA analysis:
-
Single lumen tube of varying diameter
-
Five lumen tube of varying diameters
-
Five lumen tube of varying force applications
The findings of the force analysis gave a better understanding of the relationships between lumen diameter, the distance among them, and the distribution of force on the outer surface of the tube. For example, though a .005" diameter lumen increased in stress concentration more quickly than a .008" diameter, a .006" diameter lumen experienced a slower stress concentration rise than a .007" diameter.
